SYSTEM DESIGN

TWS provides conceptual to detailed system design for all type of vessels. This includes machinery, electrical, piping, fire and safety, and outfitting. With years of operational experience and delivering results within fixed budgets, TWS offers practical and cost-effective engineering solutions.

DECOMMISSIONING FEED

TWS advises operators on technical and commercial challenges with regards to using liftboats to Plug and Abandon (P&A) wells and decommission associated infrastructure. TWS has advised operators on: identification of liftboat candidates, project decommissioning campaign’s duration, solicitation of liftboat owners for commercial information, and financial comparison of liftboat ownership vs. chartering scenarios.

MET-OCEAN STUDIES
TWS has developed proprietary engineering models that can be applied to any global oil field to predict liftboat vs. floating assets’ downtime. Hence, the prospective charters of liftboats can have quantified guidance if the increased work-ability of a liftboat can justify the premium charter rate relative to a floating asset.
OPERATIONS MANUALS

A Jack-Up poses a unique design challenge for Naval Architects as it will be a fixed structure; however, the locations where it will be “fixed” are unknown when the Operations Manual is written. Therefore, a Naval Architect must make assumptions about environmental criteria such as wave period, wave height, soil conditions, and water depth. In practice, the Naval Architect evaluates minimal combinations of environmental criteria for publication in the Operations Manual. This leaves the owner to address all others scenarios with costly site-specific assessments. This can become cumbersome with respect to evaluation of commercial feasibility of the vessel and conduct routine operations.

TWS specializes in revising operations manuals and obtaining class approval for a broader spectrum of environmental criteria. TWS couples this with augmenting a vessel’s operations manual with practical instructions that can be referenced by the crew. An operations manual revision can result in: greater commercial versatility, safer operations, and less downtime.

REGULATORY ADVISORY
Since liftboats split their time between a floating and elevated condition, the interpretation of regulations such as MODU, MARPOL, SOLAS, IMO, Class, and Flag State are often contentious. TWS strives to be an industry leader in identification and resolution of the gaps and conflicts between various regulatory requirements for liftboats, giving owners the best options.
TOW-TANK TESTING
TWS facilitates iterative tow-tank test to optimize new hull designs and modifications with a concentration on DP vessels and jack-ups. With practicality in mind, our approach permits tow tank tests to be carried out in a manner that delivers real-value to vessel owners and designers.
